Audrey F. (Walls) Montgomery,
87, of Grand Junction, CO went
home to be with her Lord and
Savior February 13, 2010 after a
lengthy illness.
Audrey was born February 12,
1923 in Man, WV to Noah Austin
and Martha Etta (Trent) Walls,
the fourth of five children. She
grew up in the Man area and attended school there.
On July 19, 1941 she married Ray N. Montgomery in Greenville,
WV and in this union had two sons, Richard R. Montgomery and
Randy N. Montgomery. The family lived in the Greenville area until
1954 when they moved to Leadville, CO. While living in Leadville,
Audrey worked at the Credit Union, Montgomery Wards, and
J.C. Penney. She, her husband, and her sons enjoyed the beauty of
the High Country by fishing, camping, hunting and picnicking. They
were also very active in First Baptist Church and there Audrey began
her love of teaching Sunday school. She did so for a total of 35
years and received a plaque for her faithful service. In 1973, Ray
and Audrey moved to Van Buren, AR, after Ray's retirement from
Climax Molybdenum. They enjoyed their retirement years by farming
and continuing in their Christian service with Concord Baptist
Church. Ray passed away September 7, 1976. Audrey moved back
to Leadville and eventually moved to Grand Junction, CO in 1982.
She was a member of Bookcliff Baptist Church and participated in
various church activities. Audrey was a senior volunteer at Community
Hospital for ten years. She also enjoyed reading, especially the
Bible - which she did all the way through over 60 times, doing various
crafts, cooking and being surrounded by her family.
Audrey was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two
sisters, Claudia Walls and Marvin Walls Ratliff; and her only
brother, H. Marcus Walls. She is survived by her two sons, Richard
(Marilynn) Montgomery of Clifton, CO and Randy (Susan) Montgomery
of Watertown, WI; grandchildren, Renee (Ian) Griggs of
Winnemucca, NV; Robin Willoughby of Jacksonville, FL; Randa
