PIONEER GYPSUM RESIDENT DIES IN GLENWOOD SPRINGS.
Nels W. NELSON was born in Varmland, Sweden, April 18, 1861, and passed away at the Hopkins hospital in Glenwood Springs, Colo., December 21, 1939, after being confined to his bed for six weeks.
He was 78 years, 8 months, 3 days of age. He came to this country in 1879, to Denver, Colo., later going to Leadville, Colo. He worked in the mines at Fairplay and Alma before coming to Gypsum in 1886, where he has since lived. He worked for Grundel Brothers on the ranch for several years, and served as a water commissioner under A. J. DICKSON of Glenwood Springs when the latter was division water engineer. He was a member of Norden lodge No. 61, I.O.O.F., in Denver for forty-eight years.
The body was taken to Denver where burial was made in the Odd Fellows section of Fairmount cemetery, at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, December 27, funeral service being from the Olinger mortuary.
He is survived by Miss Hilma GRUNDEL, a niece, with whom he has made his home in later years; Mrs. Homer DAVENPORT, niece; Wm. GRUNDEL, nephew, all of Gypsum. Other nieces and nephews are Mrs. Louis FENNO, Edwards; Mrs. May BRADFORD, Ralph and William NELSON, and Albert CURRIER, of Denver.
Those accompanying the remains to Denver for the funeral from here were Miss Hilma GRUNDEL, Mrs. Homer DAVENPORT, Wm. GRUNDEL and Mr. and Mrs. Marion BAKER.
