Barbara Frances PEARCH 1916-2007.
Barbara Frances (Gleason) PEARCH, a life-long resident of Eagle, died at home with her family March 29. She was 90 years old. Barbara's health had been in decline after she fell on New Year's Eve.
A lifelong resident of the valley, Barbara was known for her sweet disposition.
"If all people were like Barbara, the world would be a better place," said her cousin, Terri FISCHER, whose family took care of PEARCH in recent years. Barbara was kind and gentle, with a touch of stubbornness.
"She never rushed into anything," recalls FISCHER.
Barbara was born Aug. 25, 1916, to Thomas A. and Effie C. (Wedmore) GLEASON. She graduated from Eagle High School in 1934. As a young lady, Barbara baby-sat for several local families from 1939 to 1941. She kept books for Koonce Chevrolet and sold show tickets in the evening for John GREEVE at the Eagle Theater. She worked for the Independent Lumber Company from 1941 to 1951. Barbara then went to work for Mr. HUBBARD in the Abstract Office until she retired in 1975.
"I hear she was the fastest, most accurate typist they ever had in the county," says long-time friend Virginia ROSE.
Barbara married Thomas L. PEARCH on Nov. 9, 1947. In 1950, they bought their place on Brush Creek where she spent the remainder of her life. Her husband Tom was a well-known auctioneer. Barbara worked the auctions and did the clerical work for him. After she retired, she became even more involved in his auctions.
Barbara was a devoted life-long member of the Eagle Methodist Church. She taught Sunday school and Bible study classes and was an active member of the United Methodist Women.
Beverly KUNKEL often enjoyed PEARCH's company. She recalls that Barbara had a funny sense of humor-not so much in a joke-telling way, but rather a knack for making humorous observations.
"She was really very pleasant. I sure will miss her after all of these years, says KUNKEL.
FISCHER's husband, Wayne, made an immediate connection with Barbara. She was the grandparent he never had.
"You just felt better if you ran into Barbara during the course of the day," said Terri FISCHER.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Frank GLEASON; and her husband, Tom. She is survived by many cousins, all of whom loved her.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 6th at 1 p.m. at the Eagle Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, emmorial contributions may be made to Mountain Hospice, P.O. Box 40000, Vail, CO 81658.
