OTIS PING BURIED IN EAGLE.
Burial services were held in Eagle Sunday afternoon for Otis A. PING, who died at his home here, following a heart attack last Thursday.
Rev. Byron HASSTEDT held the services in the Methodist Church and burial was in the Eagle cemetery, under the direction of the Burdge Mortuary of Glenwood. Pall bearers were Nate POTTS, Gene FROST, Ernie NOGAL, Ralph HOYT, Alec MACDONELL and A. T. HILLIARD.
Otis Allen PING was born in Sperry, Iowa, Feb. 5, 1872.
He came to Eagle 53 years ago, and lived here continuously since then. He first came to the Eagle vicinity in 1900, through his friendship for the late Dave WEDMORE, whose family he knew in Iowa. Mr. WEDMORE was section foreman in Eagle at the turn of the century. When Mr. PING arrived in Eagle he went to work for Pierce-Reef Cattle company on the present Newcomer ranch on Brush Creek, then owned by John LOVE.
On Oct.25, 1901, he was married to Minnie Mae WEDMORE, daughter of Dave WEDMORE.
Mr. PING took up a homestead on Eby Creek, and during that time was employed as a painter and carpenter in Eagle, riding a bicycle the five miles to town in the morning and back home in the evening. He later sold the property, and moved onto the Dr. J. L. GREEN ranch on the creek, then bought the ranch.
During the early days of the automobile in the county, Mr. PING foresaw the need of a repair shop, and went to Sioux City, Iowa, where he took a course in mechanics, and returned to Eagle to open a garage at his home in town, and for years was salesman for Ford. When his health began to fill in the '30s, he turned the shop over to his son, Floyd.
In 1924 Mr. PING bought the NOGAL property in east Eagle, and made that his home.
He is survived by his widow, Minnie PING; two sons, Floyd of Bountiful, Utah; Leonard, Eagle; two daughters, Ruby E. DeGRAW of Eagle and Garnet PING, Eagle; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Nelia HEATH, and one brother, Perry PING, both of Winfield, Ia.
