Curtis Edward Pingleton January 17, 1934 - January 27, 2009 Dear Curtis, For so long you battled the pain and suffered setback after setback. You were in and out of hospitals, doctors offices and took enough medication to take down an elephant. You were in constant pain and had trouble doing the simplest of tasks like hugging my mother, walking to the bathroom or even sleeping. Yet, you never once complained. You never wanted to burden us with what you were going through because it meant too much to you for the rest of us not to ever worry. While you were laid up in the hospital bed last November, I whispered to you if you wanted to go, we would understand and be OK. You smiled and said "thank you, son, but not yet." I knew the end was near, but I guess I never wanted to fully embrace that reality. I didn't want you to go for so many reasons, but most of all because you meant so much to mom and to our family. When you passed away, it was awful on many levels, however, I think we all collectively agreed we were glad the pain and suffering had ended. Curtis, for all the pain and suffering you endured, we all thank you because we know you did it for us - you did it for mom. You're an inspiration for all of us and we all miss you in ways we can't begin to explain. We're glad you can rest peacefully now and ride horses with Drew in Heaven. Have a good day, Grandpa! We love and miss you, Mom, Dad, Judy, Steve, Larissa, Emma Drew, Michael, Susan, Robin, Rylei, Ben and Kelley.

Curtis Edward Pingleton January 17, 1934 - January 27, 2009 Curtis Pingleton, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and dear friend, passed away Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at his home in Palisade. He was 75. A private burial with military honors will be held later in the week. Curtis was born in Alton, MO in 1934 and eventually made his way to Colorado where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his family and friends. He retired in 1992. Prior to retirement he worked as an auto mechanic and truck driver but always said his real and best career was being a true cowboy on his ranch in Yampa, CO. Curtis was a veteran of the Korean War and was given an honorable discharge in March of 1957. He was a Private 1 and then served Army Reserves until 1962 as an Honorable Private. Curtis met his wife, Judy, and married her in December of 1992. Together, Judy and Curtis spent a great deal of time camping in the mountains. In passing, Curtis leaves behind his wife, Judy; daughter, Cherie (Tom) Burris of Columbia, MO; sons, Tony (Joyce) of Palisade; Tim (JoAnn) of Columbia, MO; sister, Brenda Bennett of Hardy, AR; brothers, Carl of O'Fallon, MO; Keith of Lebannon, MO; Gary of Carlinville, IL; stepson, Ben (Kelley) of Grand Junction; stepdaughters, Susan (Robin) of Grand Junction; Larissa (Steve) of Monterey, CA; grandchildren, Eugene (Kristian), Michael, Emma Drew, and Rylei and great grandson, Isiah of Grand Junction. Curtis is preceded in death by his parents, Leland and Nora; a brother, Loren and stepson, Drew. The family of Curtis would like him to know the following: "The stories you've told and the laughter we've shared have often brought us all closer together. The memories you've created will live on in the hearts and minds of all those fortunate enough to have shared the same trail, however brief the ride may have been. We're all going to miss you. Happy trails, Curtis." "Until we meet again my sweet and gentle cowboy. Ride those dusty trails with Drew. I will love you and cherish you forever." Forever your girl, Judy Ann. In lieu of flowers, Judy would ask those interested to make a donation to the Roice Hurst Human Society (3320 D 1/2 Road, Clifton, CO. 81520) in honor of Curtis Pingleton. Arrangements have been entrusted to Snell-McLean Funeral Home.
