Former Steamboat Springs resident Florence Eleanor Price died Aug. 21, 2008, in Brookside. She was 83.
Florence was born April 11, 1925, in Columbus, Ohio, to Grant and Mabel (Getty) Stahly. She grew up and attended school in Columbus and earned her nursing degree at the University of Ohio. She worked at University Hospital in Ann Arbor, Mich., and later received her master's degree in public health nursing from the University of Michigan.
On Aug. 22, 1948, Florence married Dr. Vernon Henry Price in Columbus, Ohio. Florence organized the Visiting Nurse Association in Moffat and Jackson counties. The couple moved to Steamboat Springs in 1957, where she was the Visiting Nurse Association director. After their retirement in 1994, Florence and her husband moved to Grand Junction.
She was a member of the Nurses Association in Saginaw, Mich., and attended the Methodist church in Steamboat Springs and then in Grand Junction.
Florence is survived by her husband, Dr. Vernon Price, of Grand Junction; children Jeff Price, of Grand Junction; Scott Price, of Hayden; Steve Price, of Grand Junction; Marilyn Kettle and her husband, Larry, of Cañon City; and Karen Forster and her husband, Mark, of Albuquerque, N.M; grandchildren Amanda Kettle, of Austin, Texas; Joshua Kettle and Angela Kettle, of Cañon City; and Johanna Forster, Tabitha Forster, Samuel Forster and Grace Forster, all of Albuquerque, N.M.; brother Don Stahly, of Iowa City, Iowa; and sister Anna Marie Whetstone and her husband, Paul, of Millersport, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert Stahly and granddaughter Rachel Rebecca Kettle.
A memorial service was held Saturday at the Bridge to Life Assembly of God Church in Cañon City, with Pastor Larry Kettle officiating. A graveside service and interment will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Grand Junction.
Arrangements were handled by the Holt Family Funeral Home.
