Eagle Valley Enterprise - October 31, 1963

HAROLD E. ROWBOTHAM.
Funeral services were conducted last Thursday in the Miller Chapel in Eagle for the late Harold E. ROWBOTHAM, who passed away in the Glenwood hospital October 21, 1963.
Mr. ROWBOTHAM was born in Birmingham, England, May 17, 1890 the son of John C. and Margaret ROWBOTHAM. With his family he came to the United States in 1906 and located at Cedaredge, Colorado.
He received his education in England and in this country.
He was a veteran of World War I, and for several years was engaged as a mining engineer, employed in the famed Camp Bird, operated by Evelyn Walsh McLAIN and also in New Mexico mines, before turning to highway engineering. For a time he was a city engineer for the City of Grand Junction.
As resident and locating engineer, for Western Colorado, Mr. ROWBOTHAM located and engineered many of the major highways in Western Colorado, among which are Vail Pass road; the west slope of Loveland Pass; Hoosier Pass, and others. The beautiful bridge at Red Cliff stands as a monument to his engineering work.
Since his retirement from the highway department in 1951, he served as surveyor for Eagle County until his death.
For the past 30 years he made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Jack BRIDGES, first in Red Cliff, then in Eagle, when Mr. and Mrs. BRIDGES moved there.
He is survived by a brother, Arnold; a niece, Elizabeth REED and a nephew, Robert ROWBOTHAM, all of Berkley [sic Berkeley], Calif.

Eagle Valley Enterprise - October 24, 1963

Harold E. ROWBOTHAM, retired State Highway Engineer died in the Glenwood hospital October 21, where he had been a patient since Oct. 16.
He had been in failing health for several months, and after entering the hospital suffered a stroke.
Since his retirement in 1955, he served as surveyor for Eagle County.
Funeral services were conducted today in Miller Chapel in Eagle, with masonic graveside services by Castle Lodge 122 at the chapel.
Cremation will be in Grand Junction Friday.
