Funeral services were held in Burdge Mortuary Chapel in Glenwood Springs Monday Jan 5 for Ella Marjorie Smelcer, who died in an auto accident which took the lives of four other persons, 13 miles east of Glenwood Nov. 30.

Mrs. Smelcer's body was recovered from the Colorado River by volunteer firemen Friday. The accident which took her life also killed her son-in-law, Robert Stevenson of Gypsum and Kenneth Anderson also of Gypsum. A search was still being conducted this week for the bodies of Charlotte and Frances Martinez, two other passengers in the ill-fated car driven by Mel Montoya of Eagle, who was injured by escaped downing in the Colorado.

Ella Marjorie Benson was born at Del Norte, Colo Feb 12, 1909. She spent her girlhood in Del Norte, graduating from high school there before entering Pueblo Beauty College.
She was married to Dr. N.J. Smelcer July 29, 1945 in Glenwood Springs, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Smelcer is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Robert L. Steveson of Gypsum and Mrs. E.L. Duplice of Glenwood; Violet Black, Monte Vista; June Grobe, Colorado Springs; Eunice Hammil, Denver; Susie Kreppa, Fairview, NM; Edythe McGuire of Del Norte and two brothers: Harry Benson of Del Norte and Ted Benson of Alahambra, N.M.

Rev. James Strickland, Baptist minister of Eagle conducted the funeral services in Glenwood and Burdge Mortuary was in charge of arrangements for burial in the Glenwood cemetery.
