DEATH OF MRS. ELIZABETH STROHM.
After an illness of a little more than one week, Mrs.Elizabeth STROHM entered the more abundant life Monday morning, February 5, at the home of her son, George STROHM, at Gypsum. George and his sister, Mrs. Marie KUTZ, and two grandchildren, Dave and Eugene CARTER, attending at the bedside, among others.
Amelia E. ANDRE was born at Ostenbruck, Westphalia, Germany, on October 29, 1858. Her pious Lutheran parents soon placed her in covenant relationship with our Triune God through the sacred rite of Christian baptism and in addition to her secular and musical training, made ample provision for her moral and spiritual guidance through a religious training, terminating in her confirmation at the age of 16. Immediately thereafter her brother, George,accompanied her to America, with Pittsburgh, Pa., as their objective. It was here that she became acquainted with and was married to David A. STROHM at the age of 22 years. The early years of her married life were spent in Denver, Colo., where her four children--Anna, Sadie. Edward and John--were born. Then following the lure of the ever expanding opening West the family traveled by stage coach to our western slope, nestling at Carbondale until the year 1908. Here Frank, Dora, George, Marie, James and Ruth entered life. It was then this beautiful, rich and fertile valley of Gypsum bid the family welcome to invest their tireless energies in the winning of the West and in giving to this community those treasurers of sturdy character, which lend security and the happiness always to be identified with a Christian home. True,much hardships and heartaches were unavoidably associated also with this home. Seven children preceded Mrs. STROHM beyond the experiences of this present adventure. During the month of April, 1932, she was bereaved of her husband and perhaps no blow was more crushing to her than the accidental expiration of her affectionate grandchild, Miss Shirley KUTZ last June.
Unfortunately, of the three children so sadly bereaved, John, George and Mrs. Marie KUTZ, it was impossible for John, living near Manhattan, Kan., to be with us at this time. In addition to the ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren, Mrs. STROHM leaves large numbers of distant relatives and friends intimately and inseperately [sic] affiliated with her, and to call her blessed.-- Contributed by Rev. Funeral services were conducted from the Gypsum Lutheran church at 2 p.m.Wednesday, February 7, under direction of the Burdge Mortuary of Glenwood Springs. Rev. Chas. L RAMME, Lutheran pastor of Gypsum officiated at the service, and musical numbers were rendered by Mrs. Kenneth GERARD, and Miss Albertine ZOELLNER, accompanied by Mrs. Amelia RAMME. Interment was in Cedar Hill cemetery, Gypsum.
