Celia Clarice SUTTON die Wednesday, Dec. 29 at Lower Valley Nursing Home after a short illness. She was 102.
Mrs. SUTTON was born Celia DEARDEN on July 4, 1880 at Huddersfield, England. She spent her childhood in Staley Bridge. She was baptised in the Episcopalian Church in England in infancy.
Mrs. SUTTON worked in the textile mills in Staley Bridge after she grew up and then discovered she could come to America. She traveled back and forth between America and England with friends four times. Then she began to correspond with Ernest SUTTON. She made another trip to America, this time to wed SUTTON.
They were married in Breckenridge on Dec. 26, 1908.
To this union were born five children. Three died in infancy.
Mrs. SUTTON helped Ernest manage the Gore View Hotel in Kremmling and then moved to Sweetwater in 1918.
They homesteaded on the Colorado River where Mrs. SUTTON lived until age 99. She then went to a nursing home in Grand Junction and later moved to Lower Valley Nursing Home where she spent her last days.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest, in 1942, a sister, Bertha, and a brother, Arthur.
Surviving are: son, Arthur of Gypsum; daughter, Alyce of Denver; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Alwasy a devoted Christian, Mrs. SUTTON was a member of the Unity Church of Christianity in America.
