Jean Conner was born in Steubenville, Ohio, to Leo and Matilda Conner. As an only child, she moved with her parents when she was very young to Denver and then moved to Clark, where she met and married Hollis Tufly on Oct. 12, 1936.
Hollis was a young man who had moved with his father, Arthur Tufly, to the Vista Verde Ranch from Appleton, where he was born and raised. Jean and Hollis moved down to ranch at Clark so their sons could attend school, but they eventually moved permanently back to the Vista Verde Ranch, where they had a number of summer cabins and also hunting camps each fall until selling it in 1973. They then moved to a ranch east of Rifle and lived there until 1988, when they moved to Fruita, back to Hollis' roots.
Jean loved skiing and horseback riding as a young girl. She worked hard all her life and enjoyed cooking, sewing, being a 4-H leader and serving on the Colorado State Extension Homemaker Council. She did beautiful needlework, making sweaters, doilies, tablecloths and afghans.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Elvin and Carolyn Tufly of Grand Junction and Roy and Delene Tufly of Dixon, Mont.; three grandchildren, Clay Tufly of Grand Junction, Caron Tufly Kosters of Colorado Springs and Brian Tufly of Dixon, Mont; and three great-grandchildren, Jordan, Ryann and Caitlin Tufly of Grand Junction.
Her husband, Hollis, two infant sons and a grandson, Benji Tufly, preceded her in death.
The family will hold a private service at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado, P.O. Box 60307, Grand Junction, CO 81506.
Arrangements are under the care of Callahan-Edfast Mortuary.
