MICHAEL WALSH KILLED IN GERMANY.
Michael Walsh, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. WALSH of Grand Junction was killed in an accident in Germany, Nov. 27, according to work received by the Walshes last week.
Young WALSH, with the 66th Armored Division of the Army in Germany was killed in a military vehicle accident Wednesday. Details of the accident are meager, however it was learned that Mike was a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the accident. An investigation is being conducted, and Mr. and Mrs. WALSH will be informed later by letter from the Army.
Mike's body will be returned to the States for burial in the National Military Cemetery at Fr. Logan, near Denver.
The young man, who would have been 21 years old Dec. 26, graduated from Red Cliff Union High School in 1955. He wa the son of Mickey and Mamie WALSH former Red Cliff business people, and prominent early-day Eagle County family. Mike enlisted in the Army in March 1956, and was due to come home in about two months.
A sister, Marcella is in Kansas City, Mo. studying for airline administration. The Walshes reside at 120 Mesa Ave., Grand Junction.
Mike's father, Mickey WALSH, is a veteran of World Wars I and II.

The community was socked and saddened Friday when word was received of the death of Michael WALSH. Mike was with the armed forces in Germany at the time of his death and was scheduled to return home soon. The sympathy of the community goes to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. WALSH and his sister, Marcella. Mike was loved by everyone who knew him and will be missed by all.

Military Burial for Michael Walsh:

The body of Michael Walsh was laid to rest in the national military cemetery at Fort Logan near Denver last Friday morning following funeral mass at the Presentation of Our Lady Catholic Church in Denver at 9:45 Dec. 13.

The young soldier lost his life in a military vehicle accident in Germany Nov. 27.

A former Red Cliff high school student, Michael was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. W.W. (Mickey) Walsh, former Eagle County people, now living in Grand Junction.

The family requested in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the American Legion Child Welfare fund at 3003 Tejon St., Denver.

The Walshes have long been active in American Legion affairs, with child welfare., their specialty. they have each held high department offices.

Young Michael was due to return to the states within a short time, having nearly completed his tour of duty in Europe at the time of his death.

He is survived by his parents, and a sister, Marcella.

Details Reported On Truck Accident Fatal to Soldier.
Details of the accident which killed Sp-3C Michael Dennis WALSH on Nov. 27 near Nuernberg, Germany, reached his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. "Mickey" WALSH, 120 Mesa Ave., on Saturday.
Young WALSH, serving with the First Medium Tank Battalion of the 66th Armored Division, was helping to transfer heavy equipment as the division prepared for its return to the States. He was thrown out of a truck in which he was a passenger when the driver lost control. The rear wheels passed over his body. The accident occurred late in the evening near Baumholder.
Born Dec. 26, 1936, in Recliff, Specialist WALSH had lived there all his life, graduating from high school in 1955. He enlisted in the Army on March 19, 1956, and was scheduled to be discharged soon after his return to the States in early 1958. He had planned to enter business with his father, operator of Mickey's Service Station on North Ave. He was a member of the Catholic Church.
Surviving in addition to his parents are a sister, Marcella Anne, who is attending school in Kansas City, Mo.
The body will be returned to the States for funeral services and burial, probably early this week. Requiem High Mass will be said in Denver and burial will be in the National Cemetery at Fort Logan with full military honors. McConaty's Mortuary in Denver is in charge of the arrangements.
Those who wish to do so may make memorial contributions to a special child welfare fund, in care of the Department of Colorado American Legion headquarters.
Mr. and Mrs. WALSH are well-known throughout Colorado for their service to the Legion and its program. They have served as heads of the state Legion and Auxiliary and are presently representing Colorado on the national executive committees.
