Royal M. Warinner, a New Castle resident who worked for A&W Interiors in Edwards for 20 years, died peacefully with his family at his bedside Sunday after a courageous battle with cancer, family members said. He was 52.

Warinner was born Sept. 18, 1954, to William J. and Nancy E. (Melin) Warinner in Merced, Calif.

The oldest of five children, Warinner spent most of his life in Colorado. He grew up in the Denver area playing sports. He graduated from Aurora Hinkley High School in 1972.

Warinner attended Mesa State College in Grand Junction, where he met his wife, Diane (Thomas). They were married April 5, 1975, and had three children.

Warinner was a construction worker and musician for more than 30 years, and he took pride in his community, where he coached children's baseball and basketball, family members said.

His hobbies included mountain climbing, going to Denver Bronco football games, playing softball, fishing, camping, writing music, playing guitar and spending time with his four grand-daughters, family members said.

Warinner is survived by his wife, Diane Warinner of New Castle; his children, Joshua (Teaa) Warinner of Grand Junction, Amanda (Ben) Garcia of Roggen and Ryan (Amy) Warinner of Grand Junction; granddaughters Jilleeann, Terann and Sailer Warinner of Grand Junction, and Brooke Garcia of Roggen; his mother, Nancy E. Warinner of Bailey; sisters Ramona (Dave) Keller of Spicer, Minn., Cheryl (Stan) Sorenson of Silt, Launa Rae (Denny) Myers of Bailey and Lynda Joy (Austin) Offutt of Littleton; and several nieces and nephews.

Warinner was preceded in death by his father, William J. Warinner.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, at Farnum-Holt Funeral Home in Glenwood Springs. A celebration of life reception will be held at the Glenwood Springs Elks Lodge following the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Roaring Fork Hospice or New Castle Recreation Department.
