Death of Dr. W.J. Wiley

Dr. W.J. Wiley, for many years a resident of Eagle, and for a number of years owner of the Eagle Pharmacy here, died in Glenwood Springs ,Colo. December 25, 1930, after only five days illness with pneumonia.

The deceased was born in Spring Hill, Kan. February 18, 1870, and came from that state to Colorado. Some years after coming to this state he was married to Mrs. Carrie Stewart, a daughter of A.D. McKenzie, of Eagle, and lived here for a number of years following his marriage. Later he returned to Kansas and resumed the practice of his professoin, that of a dentist, at Syracuse. Two or three years ago he lost his wife, and soon after that he closed his office in Syracuse and returned to Colorado, and has made Eagle his headquarters most of the time since then. For the past few months he has been agent in this territory for the Columbian National Life Insurance Co. He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Myra Newton of Caney, Kan.; Mrs. C.A. Bunger of Boise, Ida.; and Mrs. Eva R. Boice of Canon City, Colo. Only Mrs. Boice was able to attend the funeral here Saturday.

Burial was made in the Eagle cemetery Saturday afternoon. Only a short service, conducted by the Rev. Mr. Stockinger of the local Methodist church, was held at the grave, while the body was laid to rest beside that of his wife in the presence of a number of relatives and close friends of the deceased.

Dr. Wiley was a man of a most likable disposition and he numbered his friends by the legion. He had a very warm spot in his heart for this community, and at least once every year after he left here he would revisit the community for a few weeks. Many friends here regret his passing deeply.
