NELLS YOST KILLED IN HIGHWAY ACCIDENT Nels YOST, 26, Eagle was killed instantly when a motorcycle he was driving went out of control just west of Avon early Sunday morning. By earlier arrangement, Nels planned to drive in his car toward Denver Saturday evening to meet another Eagle young man, Jim Ping, who planned to bring his motorcycle here for the weekend. Nels drove to Gypsum where he picked up Shirley Borah and Joyce Phillips and then started out to meet young Ping. They met at Georgetown on the north side of Loveland Pass late Saturday evening. The two took turns driving the car and the motorcyle over Loveland and Vail passes. Nels last took his turn at the motorcyle half-way down the west side of Vail, keeping ahead of the car. The last Ping and his two girl companions saw Nels was at the junction of Highways 6 and 24. The group had planned to meet at Harrisons Cafe in Eagle but when Ping and the girls arrived there Nels hadn't put in his appearance. After waiting a short time, Ping and two more friends he met at the cafe, Jack Phillips of Gypsum and Allan Nottingham, drove back up the highway as far as Avon, but found no trace of their friend. They continued their search throughout the night, and enlisted the aid of other friends and Sheriff W. M. Wilson early Sunday. Ping and Sonny Morgan on a motorcycle belonging to Bill Palmer of Eagle found the missing young man about the middle of the morning. Tracks showed his cycle had gone out of control on a curve just west of Avon and gone down a steep embankment. Nels was killed instantly of a fractured skull. Funeral services were held at the Eagle Methodist church Wednesday afternoon by Rev. Byron Hasstedt. The church was filled with friends of the young man - old and young. The Bowman Funeral Chapel of Eagle was in charge of the burial in Sunset View Cemetery, Eagle. At the services, Jane Long sang two vocal numbers accompanied on the organ by Donna Louse Chambers. Pallbearers were Sonny Morgan, John Beasley, Allan Nottingham, Jim Ping, Jack Phillips, Bob Randall. Honorary pallbearers were Jack Reagan, Jack Gamble, Russell Ping, Larry Rule, Bill WHittaker, Jim Phillips and Lebert Cooper. Relatives from a distance attending the services included Mrs. Mary Hagadorn of Princeton, N.J., Myrtle Diekerman and Ethel Bohan, Denver; Lou Randall, Dillon; Mr. and Mrs. Les Randall and Bonnie of Phoenix; Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Lewark and Jackie McMichael of Denver and Yvonne Rouch of Los Angeles. Nelson Douglas YOST was born in Eagle, Colorado December 13, 1928, the youngest of five children born to Earl and Hazel YOST. He spent his entire life in the community, living in the Dotsero-Gypsum and Eagle communities. He is survived by his parents; two sisters Alfreda Jean Kellogg and Betty Jo Nunn both of GLenwood Springs; two brothers, Thurman E. of Pueblo and James E. of Denver; one niece, three nephews and numerous uncles and aunts.
