Basalt Man Killed in Vietnam

Mr. and Mrs. Frank A. Youngman of Basalt have been notified that their son, Navy Hospital Corpsman Edwin Youngman, 22, was killed in enemy ground action in Vietnam near Quang Nam January 26.

The young man had been in Vietnam since August and in the Navy two years. He was due to come home in the next 30 days. A letter received by his family the same day they learned of his death stated it was rumored that his outfit was about to go into battle.

Memorial services will be in Basalt. The young corpsman will be returned to Grand Junction for burial.

He is survived by his parents, two brothers, Clyde who attends Mesa College in Grand Junction and Frank A. with the military service in Charleston, South Carolina; and a sister, Phoebe Campiglia, Amarillo, Texas.

As far as is known here, Mr. Youngman is this county's first Vietnam War fatality.
