Harry Teegarden passed away
April 8, 2011, at Eagle Ridge of
Grand Valley in Grand Junction,
CO. Harry was born in St. Joseph,
MO to George and Eliza Teegarden.
He attended school in St. Joseph,
MO and Oklahoma City,
OK.
Harry's early career was in the
radio and television industry in St.
Joseph, and he also served in the Merchant Marines as a radio operator
in World War II. His many hobbies and interests included
gardening, hunting, fishing, raising pointers for field trials, collecting
and restoring antique cars. He was also known to be a master pie
maker. He was an active ham radio amateur operator since 1939,
and operated his station KOXK for many years. Harry worked for
the FAA as electronics engineer in both St. Joseph and later in Las
Vegas, NV, and was delighted to relocate to Grand Junction in 1970
to continue his work for the FAA at Walker Field until retirement in
1981. After his retirement from the FAA, he enjoyed a second career
as a church custodial engineer for nearly 20 years.
Harry was especially known for his generosity, never turning away
anyone in need. His sense of humor left all he knew with a smile on
their face. He always had a good story to tell. His faith in God was
his guiding light.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and his
wife of 40 years, Ormah Jean Teegarden. He is survived by his wife
of the past 11 years, Betty; two daughters, Pamela Lindsey of Grand
Junction and Deborah Barra of Colorado Springs; a brother, Walter
Teegarden of Cedaredge, CO; and two step-sons, David Weeks of
Fort Collins, CO, and Steven Weeks of Houston, TX. He is also survived
by three grandchildren, Brent Ivey, Jennifer Ackerman, and
Liz Cornett; and two great grandchildren, Gabe Cornett, and Bella
Cornett.
The family would like to thank Eagle Ridge and Hospice for their
loving care of Harry.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. To honor Harry's
lifelong spirit of giving, please consider lending a helping hand to
someone in need and make a positive difference in their lives.
