Cyrilla Fenton, 92, of Grand
Junction, passed away on July 23,
2010, in her home -which was
what she requested while residing
at LaVilla Grande Care Center
in Grand Junction. She was
home for four days with her family
before she was called by Our
Lord.
Visitation will be from 5 -7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 19, at
Martin Mortuary. Graveside services will be held on Friday, August
20, at Memorial Gardens Mausoleum at 11:00 a.m., with Father Albert
Bunsic of Tucson, AZ, officiating.
Cyrilla was born in PA and moved to CA when she was a child.
She married, raised her family and lived there until her husband's
retirement in 1984, at which time she moved to Grand Junction.
While in California, Cyrilla was a Teacher's Aide using sign language
which was self-taught. She loved to communicate with the
children by using her hands. After moving to Grand Junction, she
and Jack bowled in leagues - when not canning their apricots and
making applesauce. When she had time, Cyrilla enjoyed hooking
rugs and teaching herself how to play the organ. She looked forward
to family trips to Las Vegas and Mesquite, NV, to try her luck
on the slot machines. Her favorite past time, until she broke her arm
in March, 2010, was doing laundry and making all of her whites
"sparkle," while making all clothing stains non-existent. Cyrilla was
a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
Cyrilla was well liked by her friends and acquaintances who "got a
kick" out of her. She loved to laugh with people and "kid" with them
at LaVilla Grande. Some people even referred to her as "little
grandma" as she raced up and the down the halls in her wheel chair.
Her family is well served with happy childhood memories while
living and growing up in CA.
Cyrilla is survived by one son, Stephen of Grand Junction; three
daughters, Orene Speyer, Suzanne Fenton, and Judy Fenton, all of
Grand Junction; two grandchildren, Scott (Alex) Speyer and Lisa
Speyer, and two great grandchildren, Kevin and Erika Speyer.
A special thanks goes to Hospice & Palliative Care of Western
Colorado for their support during this difficult time. Funeral arrangements
are under the direction of Martin Mortuary.
