John Henry West age 87, passed
away Friday July 2, 2010 at
Quaker Hill Manor. He was born
June 4, 1923 near Fairland, OK to
James and Fannie (Green) West.
John graduated from Appleton
High School with the Class of
1942. He served in the Army Signal
Corps from 1942 - 1945.
John married Mary B. Farmer of
Delta, CO on July 29, 1945 in
Fruita, CO at what was then the Brethren Church. They lived in
Montrose, CO for three years where John worked as a radio serviceman
at Mash Appliance Co. They then moved to Pueblo, CO
where John worked at the Vidmar Mathis Appliance Co. In 1952
they moved to Wichita, KS where he worked for the Boeing Co. for
33 years, retiring in 1987. In 2003 they moved to Joplin to be near
their daughter, Linda Thomson.
John is survived by daughters, Mary Jolly and husband, Charles of
Irving, TX; Linda Thomson and husband, Howard of Joplin; grandson,
Jason Gaida of Wichita, KS; granddaughters, Wendy Dyer of
Wichita, KS; Jennifer Wilshusen of Joplin; great granddaughter,
Samantha Wisenor of Wichita, KS; great great granddaughter, Jada
Calhoun of Wichita, KS and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded
in death by his wife, Mary of 63 years; parents, James and
Fannie West; two sons, Kenneth Leroy and John Eugene; three
brothers, Dan, George and Alfred, and one sister, Ruth West.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at
Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Chapel. Pastor John Veazey, officiating.
The family will receive friends from 12 - 2:00 p.m. Tuesday.
Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 9, 2010 in the Crown Point
Veteran's Cemetery, Grand Junction, CO. Arrangements are under
the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Chapel.
