GILBERT JULIUS DaLEE. Another Pioneer of Red Cliff has passed to they beyond. On the 27th day of April, 1927, Gilbert J. DaLEE received the last call at Bakersfield, California.
Gilbert DaLEE was the son of Amon DaLEE and Tralinda (FINDLEY) of Lawrence, Kansas. Born in New York State, August 22, 1849, living in Hillsdale, Michigan, until he was 21 years of age when he left for Lawrence, Kansas, coming from there to Georgetown, Colorado.
On July 4th, 1879, DaLEE and GREINER, two hardy prospectors, pitched their camp on the Eagle River and built the first cabin on the townsite. They located claims on what is now known as Hornsilver Mountain and opened up a producing mine.
For many years Gilbert DaLEE was prominently identified with the fortunes of the camp and county, serving the town as mayor and holding county office at different periods. The lure of prospecting led him to New Mexico, Arizona, Idaho and finally to Nevada and Calif. He lived a life of hardships but persevered in his chosen work.
On November 5th, 1885, he was united in marriage with Elizabeth McMILLEN. His wife and four children survive him: Mrs. J. P. (ELSIE) ELLIOTT, Mrs. Earl (Betty) MARTS, and two sons, George and Dick.
At the request of Mr. DaLEE, he wished to be buried in Bakersfield. Mrs. J. R. LIVINGSTON (nee Alice HUNTER), a niece and her husband of San Francisco, California, attended the burial.
