BILLY BECK PASSES AWAY AT CLIFTON. Former Early-Day Resident of Eagle County Died June 17 at Home in Clifton.
Another pioneer of the Eagle valley passed away at his home in Clifton on Monday evening of last week, when Wm. BECK died at the age of 73.
Mr. BECK was born August 27, 1866, of German descent, but the place of his birth is not known to us. He came to Eagle county in 1883 and settled on the ranch near Edwards, which he owned at the time of his death. A few years ago he and his wife bought a small fruit ranch at Clifton, and moved there. They retained their Eagle county land and called this home always, maintaining their citizenship and voting here to the end. Mr. BECK loved this section and no consideration would cause him to sell the ranch land here, where he and his wife lived the hardest and happiest days of their lives. They loved to tell of their earlier experiences here, of the struggle for a living, until finally their efforts were rewarded with sufficient of this world's goods to retire to a less strenuous life. During the summer they always came up to the ranch and remained most of the time. Mr. and Mrs. BECK were true friends of the writer, and they never passed through Eagle without stopping at least to pass a word of greeting, so that we came to know them well, and no truer or better people in any way ever lived in Eagle county than Bill Beck and his wife.
He was married in New Castle, Colo., in May, 1885, and when Mrs. BECK died about a year ago, he was sorely grieved over her loss, and never ceased to miss her. Being in poor health at the time of the death of life long companion and helpmeet, he did not recover form the shock of her death, and continued to fail in health, and probably welcomed the end, that he might join his beloved wife in the great beyond.
He was an active member of the Odd Fellows lodge, and of the Grand Junction Order of Elks.
Burial was in the municipal cemetery at Clifton, the body being laid to rest beside that of his wife, Helen Ann.
