Maria Teresina Jaramillo was born April 24, 1912, in Servilleta Plaza, N.M., to Amada and Diego Jaramillo. She grew up on a ranch with four brothers and three sisters.
Teresina attended McCurdy boarding school in Espanola, N.M., and later received her teaching certificate. She dedicated her time to teaching elementary grades in her hometown of Servilleta and other nearby towns.
Teresina married Manuel Trujillo from La Madera, New Mexico on March 17, 1945 at the Saint Francis Catholic Cathedral in Santa Fe, N.M. Shortly afterwards, Manuel complete his Army duty and moved to Red Cliff. Manuel loved the mountains and was sure that Teresina would love the area as well.
Teresina and Manuel had four children: David, Eugene, Manuel Jr. and Janice.
Teresina and Manuel dedicated their time to running the Reno Cafe and Bar in Red Cliff for 19 years. During their down time from running the business, they both loved to take rides out to Homestake Park. Whenever out-of-town family came to visit in the summer, they were always in for a ride to Homestake Dam to enjoy the scenery or maybe a short ride into Shrine Pass to view Mount of the Holy Cross.
Teresina loved taking trips to visit her dear sister Marcelina in Lomita, Calif., Her nieces and nephews were always very gracious, taking her to the beach, Disneyland and other tourist places.
Teresina was active in the Altar Rosary Society of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. She loved to help host the Catholic sisters for lunch during the summers when they were in the mountains to teach catechism to the children of Red Cliff and Minturn. Teresina was known for her hard work and always welcoming new people into the little mining town of Red Cliff. After retiring and selling the Reno Cafe and Bar, Teresina still kept busy with a part-time job as a maid at the Mountain Haus in Vail, then later worked in private homes.
As a senior citizen in Red Cliff, Teresina enjoyed her weekly trips with the seniors having lunch, shopping, playing bingo and just visiting with friends. She enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and sitting on her porch watching the hummingbirds and the townspeople drive by. Her lilac bush in her yard was her pride and joy. Planting petunias or pansies in early summer brought joy to her soul. Teresina was most happy when surrounded by her family.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Manuel; her parents, Diego and Amada Jaramillo; brothers Evaristo, Eli and Diego Jr. Jaramillo; sisters Marcelina Trujillo, Emma Jaramillo and Bertha Gallegos.
Teresina is survived by her son David, and his wife, Evelyn, of Arvada, son Eugene and his wife, Sharon, of Espanola, N.M., son, Manuel, of Red Cliff, daughter, Janice, and husband Danny, of Littleton; brother Levi Jaramillo and wife Josie, of Albuquerque, N.M.; sister-in-laws Erlinda Irene Jarmillo, of Petaca, N.M., Emily Gallegos, of West Jordan, Utah, Dora Gallego, of La Madera, N.M.; brother-in-law Julian Trujillo and wife Aggie of Vallejo, Calif.; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Special thanks to the lovely people that crossed our lives during the care of our mother, especially Rosa Linda Cotter, who helped Janice on a weekly basis to care for our mother. Thank you for all your help and tender, loving care and gifts. LeAnn and Harry Schroder for coming weekly after church to give our mother Holy Communion and the special gifts you brought throughout the years. The hospice team — thank you for all you time and support. Thanks also to Dr. Thomas Lally and his staff for their excellent service. And finally, to all our friends and extended family — thank you for your kindness, continued support, thoughts and prayers. God bless!
