Inez Virginia Henke passed
away peacefully at the age of 90
on July 31, 2010, at Larchwood
Inns in Grand Junction, CO.
Inez was born March 25, 1920,
in Claremore, OK, to Al and
Bertha Roberts; she attended
school in Fruita and Grand Junction.
On July 5, 1941 she married Louis Henke.
Louis and Inez moved to Alaska with their two young boys in June
of 1945. They lived in Alaska for 29 years, during that time they
added a daughter to their family, homesteaded on the Kenai Peninsula
and Louis worked for the military as an aircraft mechanic.
Inez took care of her family and enjoyed living the Alaska way;
picking berries, making jams and jellies, canning vegetables, hunting
and fishing.
After retiring, Louis and Inez moved back to Grand Junction where
they bought a small farm on Orchard Mesa. Inez had a green thumb
and always had most beautiful flowers in her yard. She enjoyed gardening,
fishing, hunting, playing cards, traveling, and spending time
with friends and family. Inez was an excellent cook and made the
best pies.
She is survived by her son, Robert (Charlotte) Henke of Alaska;
son, Jerry (Andrea) Henke of Alaska; daughter, Arlita McDonald of
Grand Junction, CO; and one brother, Jack (Ardith) Roberts of
Grand Junction, CO; seven grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren,
and two great great grandchildren.
Inez was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Louis; her
grandson, a brother and her sister.
Her family would like to thank Dr. Phil Mohler for the many years
of care he provided; Dr. Vicki Roy, Dr. Amy Mohler, Chrystle,
Karyn, Jef, Judian and Karyn at Hospice and Palliative Care of
Western Colorado, the staff at the Hospice Care Center and the Caregivers
at Larchwood Inns for all the wonderful care they have provided.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at
10:00 a.m. in the chapel at the Hospice Care Center, 3090 N. 12th
Street. Arrangements have been entrusted to Callahan-Edfast Memorial.
Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Fruita, CO. In
lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice and Palliative
Care of Western Colorado.
