JOSEPH HARRIS PASSES AWAY MONDAY. 86-Year Old Citizen of Eagle Dies Suddenly While Seated at Dinner Table.
Joe HARRIS passed away quietly and without a second's warning at his home in Eagle Monday evening. Eighty-six years of age, he had not been in good health for the past two years, but on the day of his death was apparently as well as usual. He had been visiting with friends down town, when he went home for dinner. At the dinner table he had just finished telling a story of his early life in Kearney, Neb., when, as he pushed his chair back from the table, he dropped his head forward--and was instantly dead.
Born in Jodavis county, Illinois, of Irish parents in 1859, at the age of 8 years he moved with his family to Mt. Carroll, Ill., where he grew to young manhood. One of ten children, he is survived by a a brother and sister, now living at Mt. Carroll. In 1889, on Oct. 10, he was married to Miss Mary GINTHER. To this union there were born four daughters--Elizabeth WILKINS and Luella THAYER, both residents in California; Hazel ANGEL of Eagle, and Grace, who died in 1929. The three living children were all present for the funeral of their father.
He and Mrs. HARRIS moved from Illinois to Goodland, Kan. From there they came to Colorado in 1895, first living at Colorado Springs for a short time, and then moving to Gypsum. They moved to Eagle in 1902, where they have since made their home.
Joseph HARRIS was an industrious, hard working, loyal citizen, highly respected by a host of friends and neighbors.
Besides his widow and three daughters, Mr. HARRIS is survived by 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services conducted by the Rev. John W. BARTRUG from the Methodist church, will be held this afternoon at 2:00 o'clock. Pall bearers will be J. D. ALLEN, R. E. BELDING, Forrest W. CAVE, Gene K. LUBY, G. D. ROBERTS, and H. K. BROOKS.
