Janice Fox, 73, passed away on Friday at Heritage Park Care Center in Carbondale, losing her battle with cancer/Alzheimer's disease. Her parents were the late Arthur and Amalia (Montoya) Chavez.

Janice was born on June 3, 1937, in Gilman and raised in Red Cliff. She was a lifelong resident of the Vail Valley. As a young woman, she moved to Minturn, where she met her husband, Walter Fox. They eventually moved to Red Cliff, where they raised their family of five.

Janice was known for her excellent cooking and baking skills, which she loved to do for her family. She also enjoyed gardening and collecting unique teapots and angels. She was a homebody and enjoyed being at home with her family.

Mrs. Fox is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Amalia Chavez, son Loren Fox, brother Richard Chavez and granddaughter Destiny.

She is survived by her husband, Walter; son Arthur; daughters Julie, Jackie and Jennifer (James); brothers Lawrence (Linda) and Ernest (Hazel); sisters Arlene (Anthony), Beverly (John), Alice (Gary) and Rosella (Joe); sister-in-law Frieda Chavez; 11 grandchildren; and her beloved dog, Goldie.

The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at St. Patrick's Parish in Minturn, and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, also at St. Patrick's Parish in Minturn.

She will be laid to rest next to her son in Greenwood Cemetery in Red Cliff. Janice was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. She will be greatly missed by us all.

Arrangements are being handled by Bailey-Kent Funeral Home in Leadville.

Following the interment, there will be a reception at the Red Cliff Elementary School.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society or Alzheimer's Research Group.
