He and his mother created the printing company Avon Quick Print in 1983; the business grew and became Peregrine Press, a hub of activity in the growing town of Avon. He also spent time on Avon's Design Review Board.

An avid collector of Corvettes, he had many different models throughout his lifetime. Clay also had a passion for scuba diving, traveling throughout Florida on dive trips.
He left the Vail Valley in 2007 to care for his father in Walsenburg, Colo., and relocated to Cape Coral, Fl., in 2009 to seek a warmer climate, accompanied by his father and long-time girlfriend, Rose SERRATO.
