OLD TIMER OF EAGLE COUNTY PASSED AWAY WEDNESDAY.
Another old timer of Eagle County answered that last call, when David R. McPHEE passed away at his home on the Sheephorn February 1.
An active man, until the last, Mr. McPHEE's passing, marks the beginning of the closing chapter in an era of Eagle County's history, for with his parents, he came to this county in 1882, figuring strongly in the development of that section of the county, and was among the last of the strong men who started the county on the road to development.
David Robinson McPHEE was born at Indian Road, near Ellansdale, Nova Socita, July 21, 1866, to Joseph C. and Martha Robinson McPHEE. The family moved to the Sheephorn when David was 16 years old, and took up a homestead there, where they remained until their deaths. Both of the parents were buried inthe Sheephorn cemetery, where Mr. McPHEE will be laid to rest Sunday.
Like his father, the younger McPHEE took up a homestead on the Sheephorn and lived his ife in the community. On November 17, 1914 he was married to Clara FORSTER of Sheephorn.
He joined the Castle Lodge, 122, Masonic organization in Eagle and in 1908 was raised to Master Mason. In 1923 he demitted from the lodge here to help organize the Mt. Wolford Lodge 163 at Kremmling, and at the time of his death, was the oldest charter member.
The funeral service will be held Sunday, February 5 at 2 o'clock, at the lower Sheephorn school house, and will be conducted by the Masonic lodge.
A brother, Raoul and a sister, Martha, who was a twin to Mrs. Sarah MATHER of Sheephorn, preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife, Clara and a son, Joseph William McPHEE and his older sister, Mrs. MATHER; a brother-in-law, Carl FORSTER now lives in Eagle, besides numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of long-time friends.
David McPHEE died a rich man--rich in the friendship of all who knew him.
