Marvin E. Reese passed away
after a long illness on June 9,
2010. He was 96 years old.
Marvin was born on January 15,
1 9 1 4 t o J e d d y a n d G r a c i e
(Weddle) Reese in Bonham, TX.
He grew up in one of the poorest
areas of the United States. After
the fourth grade, Marvin quit
school and worked any job he
could find to help support his single mother and his younger siblings.
The experience shaped his extremely strong work ethic, which
became the foundation of his personality for the rest of his life.
Marvin married A. Trilby Halbert in Clarksville, TX on September
24, 1935. This September would have marked their 75th year anniversary.
She survives.
Marvin served in the Navy in WWII, after which he and Trilby
took the $24.47 in savings that they had and moved to Palisade, CO.
Marvin worked diligently for the next few years until he was able to
purchase a 20 acre peach farm in 1959. He and his family, which
now included six sons, worked the farm, in addition to Marvin
driving trucks for Grand Junction Building Materials. His peach
farm business began to grow, and Marvin became the first major
grower to sell peaches on his own from his farm, and also trucking
them to the eastern slope and as far as Kansas. His approach, his
honesty and his ability to produce quality peaches allowed him to be
successful, so much so that in 1971 he paid cash for a Mercedes
Benz. Marvin, having only a fourth grade education, was certainly a
self taught business man. He was a devoted husband and father who
will be missed sorely.
Marvin enjoyed baseball and was politically astute. He loved
helping friends and neighbors. He was very proud of his six sons, all
of whom have served in the military.
Marvin is survived by his partner of almost 75 years, Trilby; his
sons, Garland R. of Ingram, TX; Cecil W. of Montrose, CO; V.
Robbie, Harvey, and Roger all of Grand Junction, CO; ten grandchildren;
12 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Twyman Reese in 1959; four
sisters and one brother.
A visitation will be Monday, June 14, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at
Snell-McLean Funeral Home in Palisade. Services will immediately
follow. Burial will be at Palisade Cemetery.
