Tui wed Vurden Simmons, a
WWII veteran on June 6, 1945.
They just celebrated 65 years of
marriage.
After the war, they lived in
Hillsboro, Oregon until 1961
when they moved to Grand Junction
where Vern was the greenskeeper
at Bookcliff Country
Club. While in Grand Junction,
she raised their three children and was a cub scout den mother. Tui
and Vern were members of the Eagles Lodge and Tui was a past
president of the women's auxiliary. They then ventured forth to together
to manage the Meeker, Colorado and the Moab, Utah golf
courses. They were an awesome team and made many friends.
Tui then worked for City Market in the bakery and the video department
in Moab, where she retired after 17 years. She then co-operated
the “Wardrobe Warehouse” with her daughter-in-law. Tui and
Vern retired in Castle Valley, Utah in 2003.
She loved gardening, knitting blankets for her grandchildren,
square dancing and playing Black Jack. She made the best homemade
chocolate and lemon pie and none of us could get enough of
her strawberry jam.
Tui loved to go on road trips and travel. Her last trip to Australia
was last September with her daughter. She was always equipped
with her camera and lipstick. She had a kind and beautiful heart and
will be deeply missed by all, especially Vern.
Tui is survived by her husband, Vern Simmons of Castle Valley,
UT; sons, Allen Simmons of Grand Junction, and Mark Simmons of
Castle Valley, UT; daughter, Julie Garrison of Grand Junction; sister,
Ngaire Clark of Fruita, CO; 12 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren
and six great great grandchildren.
Memorial services are being held on Friday, July 16, 2010 at 3:00
p.m. at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. Burial will be in Castle Valley,
UT.
