Alice passed away peacefully at
her home in Greeley, CO, at the
age of 80, surrounded by all seven
of her children. Alice was born to
Panko (Paul) and Julia Kawcak in
rural Moffat County, CO, one of
16 children.
She married Gilbert Van Tassel
January 24, 1948 and together
raised seven children. Alice was a
native of Colorado living in Craig, Collbran, Clifton, Grand Junction,
and Greeley. Alice enjoyed sewing, baking, gardening, watching
all of the professional Colorado sport teams, and working word
search puzzles. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her
children and grandchildren, creating family memories.
Besides being a rancher's wife and homemaker Alice worked at
various department and fabric stores. She worked as a courtesy clerk
until the age of 76 and only retired because of health issues. Many
remember her smile and warmth from those times.
Alice is preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert; her parents;
son-in-law, Tom Hawkins, and four brothers and four sisters. She is
survived by her children, Kathleen Hawkins, Daniel Van Tassel,
Karen (Sonny) Waggoner, Kristine (Ron) Robledo, Darrell (Sharon)
Van Tassel, Karyl Van Tassel, and Derek (Mary Kaye) Van Tassel;
14 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sisters, and five
brothers.
A Rosary will be recited at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary on Thursday,
July 1, 2010 at 6:00 p.m., followed immediately by viewing. A Funeral
Mass will be held Friday, July 2, 2010 at St. Joseph's Catholic
Church, 3rd St. and White Ave, Grand Junction, Colorado, at 10:00
a.m. followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery.
Donations in Alice Van Tassel's memory may be made to North
Colorado Medical Center Foundation, 1801 16th St., Greeley, CO
80631. Donations will fund the Cardio Vascular Care Unit that we
greatly appreciate for their loving care and support of mom and her
family.

her home. A Rosary will be at
6 p.m. Thursday at Callahan-
Edfast Mortuary. Services will
be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph’s
Catholic Church.
Mrs. VanTassel was a homemaker.
Survivors include three sons,
Daniel of Tampa, Fla., Darrell
of Chandler, Ariz., and Derek
of Lakewood; four daughters,
Kathleen Hawkins of Grand
Junction, Karen Waggoner
of Greeley, Kristine Rob Ledo
of Lakewood and Karyl Van
Tassel of Sugar Land, Texas;
fi ve brothers, Mike Kawcak,
Paul Kawcak, Dan Kawcak and
Ivan Kawcak, all of Craig, and
Bob Kawcak of Minden, Nev.;
two sisters, Eva Robertson
of Grand Junction and Janet
Kawcak of Craig; 14 grandchildren
and two great-grandchildren.
