Robert Quintin Kocher died at
home surrounded by his loving
family, as a result of prostate cancer
on Tuesday, June 15, 2010.
Robert was born to Quintin and
Alice Bryant Kocher in Montrose,
Colorado on August 15, 1942. As
a young child, his family moved
to nearby Grand Junction where Bob attended school and later,
Mesa College.
Bob met Carol Quest while they were both students at Mesa College.
August 29th would have been their 46th wedding anniversary.
Bob served with the US Army from 1966 to 1968 in Baumholder,
Germany. He worked for St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction in
the Laundry for 27 years, rarely missing a day's work.
In December 1981, Carol and Bob adopted a son, four and one half
year old Donald from Korea. In August, two and one half year old
Edward, also from Korea, joined the family. In May 2006, the
Kochers moved from Grand Junction to Beaver Dam, Wisconsin,
near to where Carol was born. Since that move, their sons have also
relocated to Beaver Dam.
Having grown up as an only child, when Bob married into the
Quest family he felt strongly that this was his family and was thereafter
devoted. He often demonstrated that devotion when one or another
of the family was in need. In 1997 when nephew, Joe Cline,
suffered catastrophic injuries in an accident and needed extensive
after-care, Bob and family were there to offer their hospitality and to
meet his every need. Bob was proud to be part of Joe's long but successful
recovery.
As a truly patriotic American, he displayed the U.S. flag on the
front porch every day, always according to official flag etiquette.
Bob enjoyed most sports, often torn between his first loyalty, the
Denver Broncos, and his adopted new team, the Green Bay Packers.
He could often be seen wearing his Green Bay Packers jersey with
his Denver Broncos cap while watching the games. He enjoyed
having a fish fry on Friday nights and he also enjoyed music just as
long as it was Polka.
Bob was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus, proudly
serving as Guard both in the Grand Junction and Beaver Dam Councils.
He also served as Hospitality Minister at Immaculate Heart of
Mary Parish in Grand Junction and at St. Katherine Drexel Parish in
Beaver Dam until his health forced him to retire.
He is preceded in death by his father, Quintin Kocher; an infant
sister, Carolyn; mother-in-law, Helen Quest; brother-in-law, Thomas
Quest; brother-in-law, Roy "Buzz" Kinsey and nephew, Gregory
Quest. He is survived by his wife, Carol; his mother, Alice;
sons, Donald and Edward at home; father-in-law, Donald Quest of
Anchorage, Alaska; brother-in-law, Jim (Rosila) Quest of Anchorage;
brother-in-law, Ron (Joan) Quest of Parachute, Colorado; sister-
in-law, Susan Garner of Anchorage; Ed (Pam) Quest of Pipe
Creek, Texas; sister-in-law, Eva Quest of Watertown, Wisconsin;
brother-in-law, Joe (Rhea) Quest of Loma, Colorado; sister-in-law,
Helen Kinsey of Anchorage; sister-in-law, Kristy (Dave) Paeth of
Anchorage, and brother-in-law, Dave Quest of Eugene, Oregon.
Memorial contributions may be made to the America Cancer Society.
A Memorial Service will be held at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary on
July 2, 2010 with visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the service at 11:00
a.m. with military honors following at the Orchard Mesa/Calvary
Cemetery.
