Marion Doucette BAER, a former resident of Sweetwater and Kokomo, passed away at her home in West Palm Beach, Fla., July 21.
Mrs. BAER was the widow of the late Earl Edward Baer Sr., son of Edward Henry "Cub" BAER and Rena Pearl Yost BAER, former owners and operators of the Turret Creek Ranch above Sweetwater Lake. They organized pack trips and guided visitors to the higher lakes in the White River Ntional Forest for fishing and hunting.
Marion and Earl BAER were married July 25, 1942, in Revere, Mass., while he was stationed there in the military service. He was assigned to overseas duty in 1943. They came to Colorado After Mr. BAER's discharge in 1946, returning to Sweetwater to help his mother on the ranch. The elder Mr. BAER had passed away in 1945.
Mr. and Mrs. BAER later moved to Kokomo, and he was employed at Climax for a few years until they decided to relocate in Florida where they owned a home. In 1963, Mr. BAER was a crane operator for Rinker Cement Co.
The BAERs had three chlidren, Earl Edward Jr., Darline and Jimmie. The eldest son joined the U.S. Marine Corps, and Darline was married.
With the extra room, Mr. and Mrs. BAER decided to have a foster home for children. They had as many as six foster children at a time, and adopted a son, Donald, who was just two days old when he joined the family.
They continued the foster home until 1973, when Mr. BAER was injured. He passed away in October of that year.
Mrs. BAER's health then began to fail. She suffered a stroke a year ago, and was a semi-invalid suffering from pneumonia and the flu until her death.
Mrs. BAER was born Sept. 28, 1921, in Revere, Mass. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James DOUCETTE, and an infant brother preceded her in death.
Surviving are her children, all of West Palm Beach, Fla.; four sisters, Virginia GEORGE of Winter Park, Fla., Dorothy VENTOLA of Gilford, N. H., Jean ANTICE of San Diego, Calif., and Betty McMAHON of Colorado Springs, Colo.; six grandchildren and other relatives.
Funeral services were held July 26 at the Northwood Funeral Home in West Palm Beach. Cremation followed. Her ashes were flown to Colorado Springs where memorial services were held and Mass at the Divine Allumes Church. The remains were placed in Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs on July 29.
