Lola Besie Smith Hight BAER, 86 passed away December 9, 2011 at Sundbridge Bear Creek Care Center in Morrison, Colorado from causes incident to age.
Lola, the second of nine children, was born July 30, 1915 on the home ranch near Kremmling, Colorado. Her parents, Walter Sanders and Clara Ethel Lee Smith, were Colorado pioneers. Lola's older sister died in infancy, which resulted in her actually being the oldest of eight children.
Lola graduated from Eagle County High School at Gypsum, Colorado in 1933 and married Curtis W. Hight August 6, 1933. Their family consisted of three sons and a daughter. Since this was the time of the great depression, they moved many time to obtain work and maintain their family needs. She always "made a house a home" with her great skills as wife, mother, and homemaker.
Later in life, as her family was raised, she worked out of the home as a motel manager, postmistress, and housekeeper for various ranchers. It was at this time that her beloved mate Curtis, passed away November 6, 1974. She then married Cecil H. BAER and they enjoyed time together while living in Wyoming, Alaska, Utah and Colorado. Cecil passed away March 20, 1992.
Lola truly enjoyed her family, her many friends and neighbors, a chance to go fishing, traveling, tending her flowers or garden, and fixing a wonderful meal for a family gathering in her home.
She is greatly missed by family, friends, and all that knew her. She is survived by her sister Inez (Lynn_ CURTIS, Denver; brother Max M. SMITH, Denver; son Kenneth (Eunice) HIGHT, Tremonton, Utah; daughter-in-law LaRae HIGHT, Santa Clarita, California; son Gary (Caroline) HIGHT, CleElum [sic.], Washington, and daughter Sandra (Dan NICHOLSON) Emmett, Idaho; step-daughters Carol Lee (Gene) CULLEN, Craig; Carolyn Jean (Kevin) KINNEY, Colorado Springs; Vern BAER, Grand Junction, as well as 18 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Her infant sister, parents, three brothers, two sisters, son Charles, and two grandchildren preceded her in death.
The family would like to express our sincere thanks and love to all at Sunbridge Bear Creek Care Center for the endless time, tender care, and love they gave our mother.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Alzheimer's Association or Sunbridge Bear Creek Care Center. Funeral services are today Dec. 13, at 11 a.m., Gypsum Methodist Church, with burial at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
