Sandra “Sandy” Ellen
Higginson
December 20, 1955 – July 18, 2010
Sandy Higginson, age 54, passed
away in her home on Sunday,
July 18, 2010 after a very courageous
battle with cancer.
Sandy was born in Cape Girardeau,
MO to William B. and
Betty Jane Starnes and was the
youngest of five children. Most of
her younger life was spent growing up in the Deep South, where she
attended school.
Sandy followed her parents to Colorado in the early 70's, but ventured
to the Western Slope which she loved so very much. The rest
of her family soon followed because of its beauty.
Sandy loved helping everyone. She worked for hospice along with
her older sister for several years, then met the love of her life,
Jimmy Higginson, in 1997 and married him on February 9, 2002.
She quit working for home health care in order to help her husband
full-time at Jim's Lawmower.
Sandy loved gardening and she was "a damn good cook", as well
as a sucker for animals. Occasionally she was accused of reading too
much.
Sandy is survived by her husband, Jimmy Higginson; her two sons,
Ed Cox and Michael (Marcella) Cox; her two sisters, Mary Freihage
and Debbie Giddings; her brother, Dennis Starnes, all of Grand
Junction, CO; and another brother, Daniel (Peggy) Starnes, of
Cleveland, TN. She also has three grandchildren and several nieces
and nephews.
Sandy, you might be gone from this Earth, but you will be in
everyone's heart forever. We will lovingly remember how you were
able to touch each one of us in your own special way. Until we see
you on the other side…
A celebration of Sandy's life will be held on Thursday, July 22,
2010 at the Living Water Baptist Church, located at 1822 J 1/3 Road
in Fruita, CO at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested
that contributions be made in Sandy's honor to the
Roice-Hurst Humane Society or Hospice & Palliative Care of Western
Colorado. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Mesa
Funeral Service.
