George R. Cook, 90, Grand Junction, died Sept. 4, 2010, at his
home. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Callahan-Edfast
Mortuary. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Victory of Life
Church. Burial to follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Mr. Cook was an accountant.
Survivors include his wife, Miriam; two sons, G. Robert Jr. of
Springfi eld, Mo., and Jonathan E. of Fort Collins; one daughter,
Margaret V. “Peggy” Adams of Grand Junction; one brother, Alex
C. of Boulder; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

George R. Cook, of Grand Junction,
died peacefully in his home
of natural causes on September 4,
2010; he was 90 years old.
Born in Dodballapur, India on
September 21, 1919 to missionary
parents Robert F. Cook and
Bertha N. (Fox) Cook, he lived
the first 26 years of his life in the
state of Kerala in southern India.
In 1945, he married Miriam G. Barrick, also born to missionary parents
in India. They would have celebrated 65 years of marriage in
November.
Upon arrival back in the U.S., George and Miriam eventually
settled in Grand Junction in 1955. He worked as an accountant for
two local firms, one owned by his brother, Alex C. Cook, the other
Hunter & Sherwood; then worked for 12 years at City Market as an
assistant comptroller until his retirement in 1981.
He followed Jesus Christ faithfully and was an active member of
First Assembly of God (now Victory Life Church) for 55 years. He
was also involved with the Kiwanis Club, AARP, JUCO committee,
and was the treasurer for the GJ Eagles baseball team.
He is survived by his wife, Miriam, of Grand Junction; a brother,
Alex, of Boulder; three children, Margaret “Peggy” Adams of Grand
Junction; G. Robert Cook Jr. “Bob” of Springfield, Missouri, and
Jonathan E. Cook of Ft. Collins; eight grandchildren and eight great
grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 8, from 5 - 7:00
p.m. at Callahan-Edfast, 2515 Patterson Road in Grand Junction. A
memorial service will be held Thursday, September 9 at 11:00 a.m.
at Victory Life Church, 2066 Hwy. 6 & 50 in Fruita, with interment
at Memorial Gardens.
