Lillian Gonzales Chavez of
Fruita, CO died Wednesday,
September 8, 2010 at Family
Health West at the age of 96
years.
Lillian was born July 8, 1914 at
Jensen, CO to Domecindo and
Nellie Gomez Gonzales. She
spent her childhood in Trinidad,
CO and attended high school
there. Her parents died when she was very young and she was raised
by her grandmother. Lillian began taking in ironing at the age of 13.
She worked in housekeeping at St. Mary's Hospital and retired at the
age of 65.
Lillian was married to Hilario DeBaca Chavez in 1931 at Trinidad,
CO. He died in 1962 at Fruita, CO. Lillian lived in Jensen, Trinidad,
Palisade, CO, Roy, UT and Fruita, CO. She lived in Mesa County
for 79 years of her life.
Lillian was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fruita.
She worked hard raising her family, working and volunteering as a
Mesa County Foster Grandparent. She enjoyed reading, dancing,
embroidery, crocheting and cooking. She especially enjoyed trying
new recipes for every pot luck dinner she attended. Lillian helped
raise three of her grandchildren.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Charlie and Wanda
Chavez; Richard and Leona Chavez and Eddie Chavez all of Denver,
CO and Joe Chavez of Fruita, CO; daughters and sons-in-law,
Stella and Jim Ransier of Fruita, CO; Isabell Frodsham of Walla
Walla, WA; Shirley Curry of E-town, KY and Beatrice and Chuck
Rodarte of Layton, UT; one sister, Della of Los Angeles, CA; 17
grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren and 14 great -great grandchildren.
Her husband, Hilario; brother, Arthur Gonzales; two granddaughters;
one grandson and one great granddaughter preceded her in
death.
A visitation will be held on Monday, September 13, from 6 -7:00
p.m. at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. The rosary will be recited at 7:00
p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated by Rev. Mike Smith, SJ on
Tuesday, September 14 at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic
Church in Fruita with burial to follow at New Elmwood Cemetery.

will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday
at the church. Burial will
be at New Elmwood Cemetery.
