JOHN BALDAUF DIED FEBRUARY 3.
John Franklin Baldauf, 56, son of one of Eagle County's prominent pioneer families, died Feb. 3 of cancer and was buried in Salida, Colorado, Sunday.
Mr. BALDAUF was born in Gilman October 13, 1898 the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles BALDAUF, who were among the early day settlers of the Battle Mountain district. The family owned ranch land on the Gore Creek near Minturn and in 1906 moved there from Gilman to establish their home.
In Minturn he met Nina HENDERSON, a teacher in the Minturn school, and after their marriage, the couple lived in Casper, Wyo., from 1921 to 1925 then returned to Colorado and in 1926 Mr. BALDAUF opened a garage, in Minturn, which he operated until 1940, when he entered the employ of the D & RG railroad as a locomotive fireman and engineer. He continued this career until the time of his death.
Mr. BALDAUF became ill last summer, and death came in the Salida hospital.
He was a member of Eagle Lodge 43, Masonic order at Minturn since 1926.
Mr. BALDAUF was a cadet in Reserve Officer Training at Ft. Collins during World War I, and became a member of the American Legion. Both Masonic and Legion services were held for him at the funeral services conducted at the Presbyterian Church in Minturn Sunday by Rev. BAKER of Leadville and at the grave side in Salida.
Pall bearers were John CADDY, H. R. WISTER, W. D. FITZGERALD, H. A. NOTTINGHAM, J. J. KOCH, and Charles TROXELL. Honorary pallbearers were W. L. WILSON, I. KNOTT, G.R. BRYANT, and Wm. H. COLLINS.
Mr. BAUDAUF is survived by his wife, Nina of Minturn and one sister, Edna NORGAARD of New Castle.
