John Scheib passed away on
October 3, 2010 at the Veterans
Affairs Medical Center after a
long illness, he was 69.
John was born to James W. and
Ruth (Rosecrans) Scheib on
March 10, 1941 in Chicago, IL.
He spent his childhood in Maywood,
IL and later Aurora, CO
where he graduated high school.
He attended a year of college at Western State College in Gunnison,
CO. John entered the United States Marine Corps on September 9,
1959 and was honorably discharged on June 10, 1963 with the rank
of LCpl (E3).
He previously lived in Glenwood Springs, Aspen, Vail, Boston,
San Diego, Los Angeles and the Alps of eastern France.
John was a lifetime member of the PGA and had numerous interests
from fishing and hunting to sailing, skiing and gunsmith work.
Above all things, John loved teaching his many skills. He taught
marksmanship with the M1 rifle in the Marine Corp, as well as skiing
and golf to his many friends and students.
He was an honorable and able man who always gave his best at
what ever he did. A better friend no one ever had. As a professional
sailor he gave his many clients far more safety and sailing fun than
they really knew they had until they gained experience.
John leaves behind his brother, James (Jessica) R. Schieb of Orcas
Island, Washington; a neice, Kristina L.R. Hosea of Lakewood, CO;
close friends, John and Barb Yeoman and a godson, Joshua Cole
Yeoman all of Mack, CO.
Military honors will be held today at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October
6, 2010 at the Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society,
2754 Compass Dr., Grand Junction, CO 81506-8714.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Martin Mortuary.
