Frances Helen Chvilicek, age 94,
died on October 3, 2010 of natural
causes at the Retreat in Palisade,
CO.
Frances was born to Joseph and
Pauline Fuerch Kessler in Ellis,
KS on June 17, 1916. Her mother,
Pauline came to the US from
Austria at age 16.
She married Anthony (Anton) R.
Chvilicek on June 7, 1934 in Marienthal, KS. He died June 9, 1974
in Grand Junction, CO. They were farmers during the dust bowl era
in Western Kansas and then in Eastern Colorado until 1948 when
Anthony leased out the farm, bought a drilling rig and moved the
family to the Western Slope.
Frances was an excellent homemaker and she was a good German
cook. She made the best fried cinnamon noodles and homemade
candies. She loved to travel, go on scenic drives, playing board
games, going to family get-togethers, embroidering, working word
search puzzles and going camping. Her last camping trip was at age
88. When asked how she lived so long, she would say, "Because I
didn't eat my vegetables" and she didn't! Frances had a lot of dignity,
was very wise and caring and dearly loved her God, Jehovah.
She lived her life by closely following the moral standards set out in
God's word, the Bible. Her family was the most important thing to
her.
Her daughters, Arelene and husband, Leland Ottman of Grand
Junction, CO and Joan and husband, Rick Lyons of Palisade, CO
and sisters, Veronica Pionk and Isabelle Sroufe survive her. She had
seven grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 12 great great
grandchildren. Her sons, Robert L. Chvilicek and Allen B. Chvilicek,
four sisters and four brothers preceded her in death.
A private graveside service was held on October 9, 2010 at Orchard
Mesa Cemetery with Elder Neil Inman of the Palisade Congregation
of Jehovah's Witnesses officiating. Callahan-Edfast Mortuary
was in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions should
be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado at
3090B North 12th Street, Grand Junction, CO 81506. She will be
forever loved and missed, but never forgotten.
