JAMES C. BARNES SR., 1924-2001.
Mr. James Clyde BARNES Sr. of Wilmington, N.C., died March 9, 2001, at Cape Fear Hospice. Among his survivors are son Richard Byrd BARNES, his wife, Krissi, and their daughter Deborah FORBES--all of Vail.
James Clyde BARNES Sr. was born on Oct. 20, 1924, in Fountain Hill, Ark.
Mr. BARNES served his country during World War II in the 69 Division, Army, in the European Theatre where he received two Bronze Stars during the Battle of the Bulge.
He attended San Angelo College in San Angelo, Texas, and the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, Ark. Mr. BARNES spent more than 30 years in the lumber industry. He retired in 1991 from Federal Paper Board as vice president of wood products. He was a member of North Grove Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his family in Vail, he is survived by his wife of 53 years, Linda Collins BARNES; son James Clyde BARNES Jr. and wife Karen of Clanton, Ala.; William Lynn BARNES and wife Lydia of Little Rock, Ark.; eight grandchildren; three brothers; and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at the First Methodist Church in Hamburg, Ark., at 2 p.m. today.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be sent to the North Grove Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 804 Valley Forge Court, Wilmington, N.C., 28411.
