Rick W. Barnes died April 30 at his home in Edwards of heart failure following an extended illness.
Rick was born March 10, 1954, in Glenwood Springs to Marvel and Darrell Barnes. He grew up in Gilman and Minturn and lived in Eagle County for his entire life.
Rick loved the outdoors, which contributed to his years of extensive volunteer work with Vail Mountain Rescue. Rick worked as deputy with the Eagle County Sheriff's Office. For many years, he worked as supervisor of maintenance and a real estate broker for his family's business, Vail Home Rentals.
Rick married Jackie Ulrichs in 1982 and their son, Wyatt, was born in 1988. Rick's greatest pleasure in life was spending time with his son. He loved skiing, hunting, sketching and was an avid reader. His family and friends remember and cherish Rick most for his gentle nature, reflective insights, wisdom and dry sense of humor.
Rick is survived by his son, Wyatt Barnes; by his siblings, Linda Klahr, Larry Barnes and Rita Barnes-Fowler; nephews Nick and Brett Klahr; and many loving friends.
A memorial service and celebration of Rick's life is planned for Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Brush Creek Pavilion in Eagle. Light refreshments will follow the service.
