John Robert Geesing, 77, of
Montrose, passed away peacefully
at his home with his family
by his side, Friday afternoon, August
20, 2010.
John was born February 9, 1933
in Paris, Arkansas, to John B. and
Kathryn (Pennartz) Geesing.
John spent his childhood in Riverside,
CA, where he attended
school and graduated from Riverside High with the class of 1950.
John then attended Mesa State College in Grand Junction, where he
met the love of his life, Kitty Lou Tripler. John and Kitty married on
January 26, 1957 in Grand Junction. John proudly served our country
in the United States Marines from 1950 to 1955.
John and Kitty moved and raised their family of four beloved and
cherished children in Delta, CO. They lived in Delta for over 30
years before moving to Basalt, CO, in 1990 and returning to the
Delta/Montrose area in 1999, where John and Kitty made their home
until the time of his death.
John was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Delta.
John was an active member in many organizations from the Elks,
Lions Club, Delta Roundup, and Jaycee's. John was also very active
with the Colorado High School Activities Association, as a coach
and a referee. One of John's great passions was baseball. As a youth
John loved to play baseball, he was drafted at one time by Major
League Baseball Brooklyn Dodgers and Pittsburgh Pirates organizations
and later continued his love for baseball by coaching Babe
Ruth and high school baseball. John served as the Assistant Babe
Ruth State Commissioner and was inducted into the Babe Ruth Hall
of Fame in 1998.
John enjoyed spending time with his family at the family cabin, as
well as hunting and fishing, and raising quarter horses.
John had a deep love for his wife, children and grandchildren,
spending as much time with them as he could from 4-H to coaching
many of the children's sports. Family was a focus of John's life.
Surviving family members include his beloved wife Kitty of 53
years; his sons, Randy Geesing and Craig Geesing, as well as two
daughters, Tammy Shelton and Kimberly Madison, all of Montrose.
John is also survived by his sisters, Theresa James of Winfield, KS
and Mary Lewis of Pahrump, NV, as well as 11 beloved grandchildren
and two precious great grandchildren. John was preceded in
death by his parents, John and Kathryn.
A funeral service in loving memory of John will be held Tuesday,
August 24, 2010 at 11:00 a.m at St. Mary Catholic Church with
Deacon Mike Rovella officiating. Interment will follow at Grand
View Cemetery west of Montrose.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, in loving memory of
John, may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado,
P.O. Box 1802, Montrose, CO 81402 or Alzheimer's Association,
2232 N. 7th Street, Suite B1, Grand Junction, CO 81501.
Arrangements are under the direction and care of Crippin Funeral
Home, 802 E. Main St., Montrose, Colorado.
