Edward Gene Hearlson, age 82,
passed away on Friday, September
17, 2010 at the Hospice and
Palliative Care Center of Western
Colorado due to a stroke.
Ed was born on July 6, 1928 to
Francis and Inez Hearlson in Coffeeville
, KS. His family moved to
the Grand Valley from Denver in
1962, where he later met and married
his wife Ruth.
Ed loved farming and gardening. He had a large garden, of which
he was "super proud". He would load up the pickup truck with fresh
produce and make his weekly pilgrimage to Collbran to sell to the
locals. He never once came back with left over items. Ed also grew
pumpkins and would invited the Kids of the Kingdom Preschool to
visit the pumpkin patch every year to pick out their special pumpkin
and have a photo with Farmer Ed. Some of Ed's other favorites included
hunting, fishing, the great outdoors, and a good Rockies or
Broncos game. He was a fabulous cook.
Ed spent 26 years of his life working as a salesman for the food
service industry on the Western Slope and Eastern Utah. He had
worked for the Keebler Corporation, Pacific Fruit and Produce and
American Wholesale affiliated with CD Smith. Ed was well-known
and respected by all who came in contact with him.
At Northeast Christian Church, Ed was referred to as "The Bethlehem
Man". He built and set up the scenery pieces for the annual
"Bethlehem Revisited". Last year was the first year Ed was unable to
participate in preparing for the annual production. The men of the
church teased they were going to go get a comfortable recliner for
Ed to sit in so that he could make sure everything was set up correctly.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, two half brothers and son,
William Korver. He is survived by his lovely wife of 46 years, Ruth
Hearlson of Palisade, CO; his sons, Robert Gene Hearlson of El
Paso, TX; Bob (Elaine) Korver of Palisade, CO; his daughters,
Linda Marshall of Caldwell, KS; Kathy (David) Kelly of Austin,
TX; and his daughter-in-law, Polly Crabtree of Grand Junction, CO;
four half-brothers; two half-sisters; 14 grandchildren; 26 great
grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a viewing at the Mesa Funeral Service Chapel on
Wednesday, September 22, 2010 from 7 - 9:00 p.m. and a graveside
service at Memorial Gardens Cemetery on Thursday, September 23,
2010 at 2:00 p.m. Flowers are welcomed or donations can be made
