Francis Marion BEARDSLEY was born in North Lansing, N. Y., June 4, 1849, and died at his home in Gypsum, Colo., Sunday, December 4, 1938, at the age of 89 years and 6 months. He was the last of a family of twelve children.
Mr. BEARDSLEY was graduated from Courtland Normal School in 1876 and for ten years following his graduation, taught school in Elmira, N. Y.
At that time he retired from the teaching profession and took up that of a traveling salesman, his territory extending through Nebraska and Minnesota. He followed this profession until his retirement in 1926, when he came to Gypsum, in the sunset of life, to spend his declining years in the home of his daughter, Leda B. STEIN.
The family made its home for a time in Canon City, Colo., and it was here he lost his wife by death in 1915.
Mr. BEARDSLEY was a gentleman of the old school, reserved, dignified, courteous, and he retained his keen mentality to the last.
He had been about town during the afternoon and died suddenly of a heart attack with no previous illness.
Surviving him are his daughter, Mrs. Leda B. STEIN, and his son, Myron W. BEARDSLEY, of Elko, Nev., and three grandchildren, Helen and Romaine STEIN, and Robert BEARDSLEY.
Funeral services were conducted in the Gypsum Methodist church at 2 p.m., Tuesday, December 6, with the Rev. Claude E. COPLEY delivering the funeral discourse. The body was taken to Canon City and laid to rest beside that of his wife.
