Long time Grand Valley resident
Vivienne Marie Casto passed
away at Eagle Ridge of the Grand
Valley on Thursday, October 14,
2010.
Vivienne was born to Edward
and Lola Farrand Schwartz in
Flint, Michigan on December 12,
1914. She spent her childhood in
Holly, Michigan before moving to
the Unaweep Canyon area. At the age of 16 she met the love of her
life. Two months later, on October 29, 1931 Byrl Casto faked a
toothache to get dad’s car and eloped with his young bride to Moab.
They would spend the next 55 years together working their ranch
and raising a family, before Byrl's passing in 1987.
Vivienne was a homemaker in the true since of the word. She loved
cooking and canning, helping her husband on the ranch and being a
grandma she took great pride in the fact that she had became a great
great great grandma and was able to see her family grow to six generations
during her lifetime. Her children and grandchildren remember
taking her on many car rides and the long visits that they had
during them, how you must have pockets on an outfit, and how even
this week as they say their goodbyes after 79 years grandma Vivienne
never took off her wedding ring.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Byrl;
daughter-in-law, Rosemary Casto, and three grandsons. She leaves a
legacy of three sons, Ed Casto (Shirley) of Grand Junction; Beeman
Casto (Jessie) of Unaweep Canyon, and Jack Casto of Delta; one
daughter, Lois Hubbard (Bob Fort) of Nucla; 12 grandchildren; 27
great grandchildren; 23 great great grandchildren and one great great
great grandson.
A celebration of Vivienne's life will be held Tuesday, October 19,
2010, 10:00 a.m. at Martin Mortuary with visitation one hour prior.
Burial will follow at Grand Junction Memorial Gardens where she
will be laid to rest by her beloved Byrl. Condolences may be left for

Vivienne Casto, 95, Grand
Junction, died Oct. 14, 2010, at
Eagle Ridge of the Grand Valley.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m.
Tuesday with services at 10 a.m.
at Martin Mortuary. Burial will
follow at Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Casto was a homemaker.
Survivors include three sons,
Beeman of Unaweep Canyon,
Ed of Grand Junction and Jack
of Delta; one daughter, Lois
Hubbard of Nucla; 12 grandchildren;
27 great-grandchildren; 23
great-great-grandchildren; and
one great-great-great grandchild.
