Virginia Ruth (Orr) Maxwell

She attended Cache la Poudre
schools and graduated salutatorian
in 1939. Virginia graduated
from Colorado A & M (CSU) in
1943 with a BS degree in Home Economics.
On May 2, 1943 she married Rayburn Leon Maxwell and moved to
Corpus Christi, Texas where he was stationed in the US Navy. Following
his discharge from the Navy after WWII, they settled in
Grand Junction, CO. They later lived in Montrose before settling in
Delta where they lived for more than 40 years. The Maxwell's established
the Memory Gardens of Delta County (Mesa View Cemetery).
Virginia managed two credit unions - Delta Federal and the
Joint District 50 School Credit Unions.
Virginia and Rayburn Maxwell had six children, Carol Maxwell
(Don Hall), Wayne (Carolyn), Theodore (deceased), Debra Robinson,
Michael (Kendra), and Patricia Jarvis, 13 grandchildren and 18
great grandchildren.
Virginia loved music and was 'drafted' as a teenager by her future
father-in-law to play the piano for church. From then on she played
the piano or organ for the churches she attended until she was unable
to play any longer. Virginia also loved to travel. She and Rayburn
were 'Winter Texans' and lived in Zapata for ten winters. Their
favorite trip was the long drive to Alaska. Virginia has a special gift
for meeting and remembering people and would often find a personal
connection with the people she met.
Virginia lived at The Fountains Assisted Living Facility for eight
years and moved to Eagle Ridge Nursing Home eight months ago
where she died peacefully on October 15 2010.
Funeral services will held on Thursday October 21, 2010 at 10:00
a.m. at First Baptist Church, 1250 Pioneer Rd., Delta, CO. A viewing
will be held Wednesday evening from 5 - 7:00 p.m. at Taylor
Funeral Service, 682 1725 Road Delta, Colorado.
