"I've been everywhere Man"
should have been Robert Searcy's
middle name. Born Robert Dale
Searcy to Earl and Matilda Searcy
October 11, 1924 in Louisville,
Kansas. On to Bellville, Kansas in
1930 where he started first grade.
In 1934 he moved to Craig, Colorado
with his family so that his
father could work the family
homestead. 1938 found him going to the old one room Morrisanna
school house and in 1939 at Appleton where his family had moved.
He graduated from Grand Valley High School, class of 1943. Superintendent
Orville Countryman wrote on his class photo " Courtesy
that is constant, A manly attitude, Consideration for Others,
And a perception of the true values in life are bound to bring you
success in whatever you may undertake".
And success he did have. After one year at Gates Rubber in Denver,
Robert hired on with a survey crew as a temporary employee of
the US Geological Survey. He did take time to come home on leave
to ask Viola May Moore to be his bride. They were married in her
parents home on Morrisanna Mesa, January 2, 1947 and left the next
day on the train back to where he was working in Brownwood,
Texas. He was later hired full time and he and Vi spent the next 34
years traveling from one job assignment to the next. At a government
workers retirement dinner in Denver one of Bob's supervisors
came over to tell us that Bob was about the only one that everyone
got along with. He also elaborated on what quality work Bob had
done working on topographic maps.
In 1980 Bob and Vi retired to the apple ranch on Morrisanna Mesa
which had been in both their families. They spent the next 18 years
working hard tending the apple trees, some of which had been
planted in 1894 and some by Vi's father. Many friends and family
have great memories of apple harvest time.
In 1998 Bob and Vi moved to Rifle Creek where they spent eight
years. Another move was made in 2006 to the city of Fruita to be
close to sons Jim and Dale, three grandkids and spouses and 15 great
grandkids.
Bob was a member of the Methodist Church, Lions, and NARF. He
enjoyed fishing, hunting and most of all family and friends. He was
a wonderful loving father, husband and "Uncle Bob" to many.
Survivors include his wife, Viola “Vi”, children, Jim(Marilyn)
Searcy, Fruita, CO; Eva Searcy, Laughlin, NV; Roberta Sklyer
