Julia Isabell Haas Kirby July 14, 1914 – January 8, 2011 Julia Isabell Haas Kirby passed away at her home in Grand Junction, CO surrounded by her family on January 8, 2011. Julia was born to William Andrew Haas and Manerva Jane Sumpter in Hudson, NC on July 14, 1914. She received her education in Caldwell County in NC. Even as a young child, she worked in the cotton fields and farm. After receiving her education she continued work in the cotton mills and also furniture factories. Julia was well known by all who knew her as being a dedicated, hard worker. In 1935, her life was blessed with her one and only child, Betty Lou. Although Julia eventually moved to Colorado, North Carolina was always "home". She often spoke of returning to Carolina and would talk about the Dogwoods and many wonderful memories of gardening and owning her own home. She loved to cook, bake and can for her family, and was known for her banana pudding!! She moved to Colorado in the late 80's to be near her family. Julia has many relatives in Carolina, however due to her love of immediate family she decided to reside in Grand Junction. Her daughter, and other family members provided her care in the family home throughout the years. God and family meant everything to her, and it was not unusual to come home to find her reading her bible. Julia is survived by her daughter, Betty Setzer, and two grandchildren, Renee Guerrieri and Allen (Debbie) Setzer. Two grandsons, Ken and Mark Setzer preceded her in death, as did her son-in-law, Murray Setzer. She was blessed with five great grandchildren, Cody, Misty, Jeremy, Monica, and Preston. God also blessed her with 12 great great grandchildren. The family would like to thank Alpine Hospice for all of their loving care. A viewing will take place on January 13, 2011 at 12:00 p.m. at Martin Mortuary. Services will follow at the mortuary at 2:00 p.m. A graveside service will be in Gunnison on January 14th at 1:00 p.m.
