Earl BECK of Red Cliff, for fourteen years an employee of the Empire Zinc Company at Gilman, and a shift boss for years, died in the Gilman hospital Sunday, January 15, 1939, from a attack of acute appendicitis.
Funeral services in charge of Mortician Paul ANDRE of Eagle were held in Red Cliff at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon.
BECK was a World War veteran and a member of Battle Mountain Post American Legion. The Legion had charge of the burial service, according their departed comrade a full military burial.
The deceased was nearing his 46th birthday at the time of his death.

Death called Ira Earl BECK Sunday morning at two o'clock, January 15, 1939 at the Empire Zinc hospital, following an operation for a ruptured appendix.
Earl BECK was born at Baliot, Iowa forty-five years ago. He moved to Salida, Colorado with his parents at the age of fourteen, living there until 1921 when he and his family moved to Red Cliff, where he has lived ever since. He was married to Dessie M. TOMLIN in 1918 to which union six children were born, all boys, the eldest now is 16 years old, the youngest 5 years. Since living in Red Cliff Mr. BECK had been employed by the Empire Zinc Company, and for continued and faithful service he had received two stars and in a few months would have been due for the third star.
The American Legion, the Auxiliary and the Odd Fellows conducted the last rites; a military service with the lodges participating was very impressive. The services were held in Carlson's Hall and interment was made in Evergreen [sic. Greenwood] cemetery. Sincere sympathy is expressed by all.
