Forrest Patton passed away at his home in Grand Junction, Colorado
at the age of 79 after a lengthy illness.
Born in Battleground, Washington to Walter and Hazel Patton, his
family moved to Olathe, Colorado and established a Texaco service
station and A.G. Grocers where Forrest grew up working with his
family of two brothers, Fay and Dale and two sisters, Hilda Sheets
and Della Webb. He graduated from Olathe High in 1948 and enlisted
in the Air Force during the Korean conflict. He married his
best friend and fellow Olathe graduate Patsy Hovis in 1951. They
were blessed with two children while in the service, Deborah (Patton)
Goddard of Palisade, CO and Myron Patton of Bakersfield, CA.
After an honorable discharge from the service in 1954 Forrest and
family settled for a short time in Montrose, CO driving fuel trucks
and working as a mechanic before attending college at Colorado
State University where he graduated with a degree in accounting.
Finding employment as the corporate accountant in Phoenix at a
large textile corporation, he and Patsy pursued teaching certificates
through Arizona State. While teaching in Holbrook, Arizona before
attaining teaching positions in the Grand Valley, they were blessed
with their third child, Scott Patton of Parker, Colorado.
Forrest taught business courses at Central High School until retiring
in 1987. Over the years he was active in service organizations in
the community; Kiwanis, Mesa County Sheriff’s Posse, the Elks and
Moose. He enjoyed raising horses through the 70’s and 80’s, fishing,
hunting, travel, playing cards and being with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Patsy; their children, Debbie
Goddard, her son, Kyle; Myron (Becky) Patton, his son, Tyler
and daughter, Callie; Scott (Lisa) Patton, his daughter, Hannah, son,
Benjamin.
He was greatly loved and will be sorely missed.
A visitation will be Tuesday, August 10, 2010 from 3 - 7:00 p.m. at
Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. Graveside service will be Wednesday,
August 11, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the Olathe Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice
& Palliative Care of Western Colorado.
